REVIEW

If you are a regular sports bettor, or even if you just place the occasional wager, you undoubtedly know the name William Hill. The bookmaking company is a giant in the industry, with operations in 10 different countries and more than 12,000 employees worldwide. And we also all owe a tip of the cap to the man, William Hill, the grandfather of modern sports betting.

In 1934 in London, he founded the first postal and telephone betting service. Sports betting had been around for generations by then, but William Hill revolutionized how you could place wagers.

You could bet without being face-to-face, and on credit. And you could bet on events happening far away. Essentially, you could bet then, as we take for granted today.

In the 1960s, William Hill expanded into retail shops. In the 1990s, it took its bookmaking services to the internet. And now, in the 2020s, it is expanding across the United States and into Colorado.

BONUSES

Sign Up and Deposit Bonus

Even with its stellar reputation, William Hill understands that in this sports betting climate, the industry’s biggest names need to dangle customer incentives as the surest way to get new registrations.

If you are a new customer that has never previously had an account with William Hill, it will match your initial deposit dollar-for-dollar, up to $150. This isn’t a risk-free bet. This is a straight deposit match.

You put money in your account, and it’s doubled by William Hill. And if you use the code WH150, you will receive an extra $10 bonus just for registering. William Hill calls that a Login Bonus.

Bonus Offer Terms and Conditions

As with all deposit bonuses and registration incentives, there are some conditions. That $10 Login Bonus will be forfeited if you don’t place a wager within 21 days of registering for your new account.

If you want the deposit match bonus, be sure to make that deposit within seven days of registering for your new account. After a week goes by, it’s no longer available.

Now the really good news about that $150 deposit match bonus. The number isn’t all that high – you can find sportsbooks that offer $250, or even $500 – but the playthrough requirements are incredibly customer-friendly.

If you deposit $150 and get $150 from William Hill, all you have to do is wager $300 to turn that bonus into cash. If it’s $100 and $100, then $200 in wagering fulfills your requirement.

When you consider that some deposit bonus matches require a playthrough of six times on the low end, and can be as high as 25 times, this is a great deal.

William Hill Rewards Club

Unlike most sportsbooks, William Hill does offer its customers access to a rewards club, called simply The William Hill Rewards Club. Membership is free, and points are earned in the following way.

  • Straight bet: One point earned per dollar wagered
  • Parlay/Teaser: Two points earned per dollar wagered
  • Parlay Card: Five points earned per dollar wagered

Earn enough points through the William Hill Rewards Club, and you cash them in for free bets and other comps at William Hill retail locations.

WILLIAM HILL FEATURES

Along with the free money you get just for getting your account started, William Hill has many featured wagers and promotions that will keep your betting juices flowing from season to season.

Examples of the featured wagers and promotions you’ll find online and on the William Hill mobile app are:

Hail Mary Parlay: On college football parlays that feature three legs or more, losing bets will return 10% of the initial wager amount, up to $50.

Bet Boosts: Limited to once a day per customer, when placing a wager on any single-day event, you can choose to boost the odds on that bet.

Upset Special: If you place a moneyline wager on a football underdog of +300 or greater and that team loses the game by six points or fewer, your total bet will be refunded. The only requirement is that the initial bet is at least $10.

As the seasons change, so do the featured bets and bonuses – including bets on basketball, baseball, hockey, soccer, and all of the big events on the sports betting calendar.

BANKING WITH WILLIAM HILL

When it comes to banking, William Hill does things a little differently than most Colorado sportsbooks.

Making Account Deposits

The first thing you’ll notice is the minimum deposit amount. William Hill requires that each deposit be at least $20. This amount isn’t going to break any sports bettor’s bank, but it is double from what you’ll find with most other Colorado sportsbooks.

The possible deposit methods are also different, in that there are fewer of them:

  • Credit or debit card
  • ACH (e-check)
  • William Hill Prepaid card
  • Cash deposits at a William Hill retail location

The big disappointment here is the lack of online bill pay. It’s both the safest and fastest method that is available in the industry, and almost everyone else offers it.

You’ll also notice that there are no e-wallet options available, like PayPal or Neteller. Also, PayNearMe, which allows you to use cash to fund your account without having to visit a retail location, is absent from this list.

When depositing with a credit card, there is a $1,000 maximum deposit limit.

Making Account Withdrawals

The lack of good electronic deposit options also bites the customer on the withdrawal end. Without online bill pay or a bank transfer to reverse, the only method of electronic withdrawal is back to a William Hill prepaid card. So if you don’t have one of those, but you want to be a William Hill customer, it’s a good thing to have.

There is no fee to maintain or use a William Hill prepaid card.

Outside of that, your choices for withdrawal are these:

  • Personal check
  • Cash withdrawal at a William Hill retail location.

So, not great. Checks obviously take several days to process and arrive in the mail, and cash can only be withdrawn at a retail location – which in Colorado is limited to the mountain town of Black Hawk, just west of Denver.

Available Wager Types

On the website and mobile app, William Hill offers a complete How-To guide for all the bets it offers. So if you’re new to sports betting, they have you covered.

Those bet types include:

Point Spread: The most popular sports bets are decided by a point spread. The point spread represents the margin of points in which the favorite must win by to “cover the spread.” Bets on the spread usually pay -110.

Moneyline: The moneyline represents the odds of a team winning the game outright without the use of a point spread. For example, if the moneyline reads -150, that is the favorite, and to win $100, you must bet $150.

Totals: This is a bet on the total amount of points, runs, or goals scored by both teams in a game. You place your bet on whether the amount will be over or under the posted line.

Proposition Bet: These are bets that focus on the outcome of events within a game. Props are offered on team and individual results, like who scores first, which starting pitcher records the most strikeouts, and which team takes the most shots on goal.

Futures Bet: A futures bet is a wager on an event typically far in the future, such as the winner of the Super Bowl, next year’s NCAA Tournament, and the winner of the U.S. Open tennis tournament.

Live Betting: Also called in-play wagering, these are bets placed on events already in progress. They feature changing spreads and odds, quarter and halftime lines, buyout options, and smaller bets inside the main event – like bets on specific at-bats during a baseball game.

To accompany William Hill’s large in-play wagering menu, they also feature a large selection of streaming events. So you can bet on a live event and watch the stream as it unfolds, and from events anywhere in the world.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS (FAQS)

Anyone eligible to place sports wagers in Colorado can open an account and place bets through William Hill. Just be at least 21 years old and inside the state lines of Colorado when placing that bet.

As per state law, you can access your account outside Colorado, but you will not be able to place bets until you are inside the state.

William Hill is available on all desktop browsers, and there are mobile apps that can run on both Android and IOS. One note about the Android app – since Google Play does not allow gambling apps in its store, you will have to visit the William Hill website to get a download link for the Android app.
